Hoka One One EVO Speedgoat (RTR Review) Jeff V: The EVO Speedgoat is a little lighter, has a wider, more stable platform, has more cushion and much better traction. The EVO also has a Matryx upper, which has a bit more stretch which may be appreciated by those who need a little extra room, however is not the most secure in technical terrain.
Hoka One One Speedgoat 2 Review by Matthew Imberman. The Good. Hoka seems to have finally designed a shoe that I’d want to take on technical trails–and hey, I can even get my foot into them! I’m going to abbreviate their name because I can’t remember if they’re pronouncing it “Hoka Won Won” or “Hoka Oné Oné this week”.
Hoka wouldn’t describe the Speedgoat as soft & plush, it falls in that middle part of the spectrum with the Hoka Stinson as that soft & plush trail shoe. While the Torrent 2 is responsive, it still feels protective and minimizes any impact underfoot. The Torrent 2 is also 1.5 oz lighter than the Speedgoat so it definitely feels lighter and

However, the Hoka Torrent 2 has a better grip thanks to more numerous and more aggressive lugs (the Kiger 6 has no lugs under the middle of the foot). Hoka One One Challenger ATR 5. The Challenger ATR 5 is positioned between the Torrent and the Speedgoat in the Hoka range with a similar weight and more cushioning.
The Hoka One One Speedgoat 5 shoes. The wide platform and solid torsional rigidity give these shoes exceptional stability for footwear this light. And, of course, the Speedgoat 5 sportsHoka’s signature oversized, lightweight, compression-molded EVA foam midsole, which delivers balanced cushioning for trail runs or lightweight hiking—but now has a lighter midsole compound that still feels
Vibram Megagrip outsole wtih 5mm lugs. Below the uppers, the Mafate Speed 3 is virtually identical to the Mafate Speed 2. Lightweight compressed EVA has a somewhat firm feel when running easy, but nice responsiveness when increasing the pace, while meta-rocker geometry makes for a smooth transition from heel to toe.
The new Speedgoat 5 provides a smooth and enjoyable ride, but the underfoot feel is firmer, and the bounce is more classic and moderate. The stack height and drop are identical for both shoes: 33 mm in the heel and 5 mm, respectively. Despite this, the Tecton X is much lighter with 252 g/8.9 oz against 290 g/10.2 oz for the SG5, or 38 g/1.3 oz
A few models that would provide good traction, as well as comfort, are the Speedgoat 3's and the Speedgoat 2's. The 2's are listed on the sales page and the 3's are our newest rendition of the Speedgoat collection. These offer a Vibram sole which is going to provide the most traction we offer for running on uneven or rocky terrain.
Mike P’s Score: 9.60 / 10. Ride: 9.5 - Loses a bit of “Speed” from V3, but gains more comfort. Fit: 9.5 - Loses a bit of lockdown from V3, but again, gains more comfort, especially in the heel area and around the collar. Value: 9.5 - $185 is no doubt high, but this shoe will eat up mountain mileage and vert.
